The Midwest Renewable Energy Association’s Solar Group Buy (also known as Solarize)
programs have helped 482 property owners in four states add 3,815 kW of solar electric generating capacity to their homes, farms, organizations and businesses, more than doubling
the organization’s solar group buy results to date.
MREA’s Solar Group Buys come at no cost to the partnering jurisdictions and organizations
except for staff time. Each program included a competitive process led by local advisory
committees to select the solar installation firm that would serve their respective program.

Former California Gov. Jerry Brown visited Olympia to support Gov. Jay Inslee’s climate change proposals. Just hours before the late Thursday visit last week, the state Senate Environment, Energy and Technology Committee had conducted a hearing on one of the largest bills in Inslee’s climate package. If Senate Bill 5115 is passed, Washington state would transition to a completely renewable energy economy by 2045. California passed a similar bill last year. - Bundling small capacity solar: How Bloomberg, Salesforce made VPPA’s work for them, Utility Dive. The contract is intended to serve as “a template for the market going forward,” LevelTen’s CEO Bryce Smith said, to allow smaller buyers to participate in the renewable energy market.

This year, PV Info Link is predicting 112 GW of new solar capacity will be installed – a rise of 20 GW on last year’s figure – and the market share of the ten largest PV manufacturers will stay around 70%. Monocrystalline solar modules will account for almost 60% of total sales and PV Info Link expects sales of special modules to increase.

Schneider Electric currently has more than 300 microgrid projects on the go in the US, and is using its EcoStruxure Microgrid Advisor software platform for cloud-connected, demand-side energy management. It’s integrated into the system to enable a look at current electric rate tariffs and optimization of energy usage – but does so faster than any human could.
